If you like your michigan cocktail bar distilled, Michigan is the place to be. The state is home to a number of craft distilleries that produce vodka, gin and whiskey.
A few of these craft distilleries offer tours where you can learn about the process from a guide, sample the spirits and enjoy an excellent lunch. Some are family owned and some have become a tourism destination in their own right.
Iron Fish Distillery
An hour south of Traverse City, this 119-acre farm grows rye and Jupiter winter wheat for their spirits. The distillery is surrounded by forests, and you can see the distilling process happening through windows in the adjacent tasting room.
The distillery is a favorite among locals, and their craft vodka has been awarded numerous national awards. Guests can tour the distillery and learn about the distilling process from an experienced guide, as well as local lore and history of the site.

The Grand Rapids-based craft distillery offers a range of spirits, including its award-winning young bourbon and find vodkas. It also produces Spirit of the Maple, a barrel-aged spirit distilled from 100% maple syrup, and aquavit.
Detroit City Whiskey
Located in the Eastern Market in downtown Detroit, Detroit City offers several options for a tasting, from its Homegrown Rye to its Richard Scott cocktail that incorporates apple brandy and cinnamon bitters.
Two James Spirits
Founded by brothers Bailey and Landrum in 2013, this new distillery is making their mark on the craft spirits scene with their 28 Island Vodka and Old Cockney Gin. They are currently distributing the first of their products and will be adding other whiskeys and bourbons to their portfolio in the future.
